In a push towards inclusive and accessible elections, the Election Commission of India has initiated the home voting facility across all three Assembly constituencies of Karbi Anglong—Bokajan, Diphu, and Howraghat—ahead of the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026.
Under the initiative, polling teams are visiting the residences of eligible voters, particularly senior citizens aged 85 and above and Persons with Disabilities (PwD), enabling them to cast their votes without having to travel to polling stations. The move is aimed at ensuring greater participation and convenience for vulnerable sections of the electorate.
The facility has received a positive response from beneficiaries, with many elderly voters and PwD individuals expressing appreciation for the effort. Several voters described the initiative as empowering, noting that it allows them to take part in the democratic process with dignity from the comfort of their homes.
District election authorities are closely monitoring the process to ensure adherence to guidelines, including maintaining ballot secrecy, ensuring security, and proper documentation in line with ECI norms.
The home voting initiative forms part of the Commission’s broader commitment to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind in the electoral process.
