Golden Langur Festival: A celebration of culture and conservation

The Golden Langur Festival, a yearly event in Western Assam, is set to take place from January 3rd to 7th, 2024. The festival aims to promote tourism, raise awareness for the endangered Golden Langur, and highlight the region's rich cultural heritage.

The event will feature traditional performances, art exhibitions, food showcases, and large musical acts, providing a platform for local talents and businesses.

The festival's organizers are committed to protecting the Golden Langur (Trachypithecus geei), which is listed among the 25 most endangered primates globally under the Wildlife Act of 1972.

The festival takes place in the Kakoijana Reserve Forest in the Bongaigaon district, home to approximately 600 golden langurs.

The festival is not only a celebration but also a call to action to raise awareness and promote shared responsibility for the protection of the golden langur.
