'Jigra' teaser: Slow rendition of 'Ek Hazaro Mein Meri Behna' gives goosebumps

Actor Alia Bhatt's upcoming film Jigra looks promising based on its first teaser, which was released on Sunday, September 8. Directed by Vasan Bala, known for Monica, O My Darling and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, the film tells a story of ‘courage, passion, and determination.’ It also stars Vedang Raina, who made his debut in Zoya Akhtar's The Archies.

In the teaser, Alia portrays a protective sister to her brother, played by Vedang, who has been detained by the police in a foreign country. The teaser showcases her running, dodging bullets, fighting adversaries, and undergoing rigorous training to rescue her brother. Actor Manoj Pahwa appears to play her mentor, advising her, "Bachchan nahi banna hai, bach kar nikalna hai (It is not time to be a hero like Amitabh Bachchan; you have to run)." To which she responds, "Ab toh Bachchan hi banna hai (I have to be a hero)."

The teaser features a recreated version of the song "Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka," originally sung by Kishore Kumar and featured in the Dev Anand film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, playing in the background.

Alia has been actively sharing posters of Jigra, and her look in the film has impressed her mother-in-law, actor Neetu Kapoor, who commented on one of the posters with, "Wow fierce," followed by a fire emoji. For the film, Alia also underwent basketball training.

In addition to acting, Alia has co-produced Jigra with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. Reflecting on the film, Alia previously stated, "Just a little over a year later, we are ready to launch our second production – Jigra, a beautiful story of courage, passion, and determination. I hope to consistently support compelling narratives that are authentic, enduringly timeless, and work with brilliant creative minds to bring them to life."

Alia Bhatt first ventured into production in 2022 with Darlings and established her production house, 'Eternal Sunshine.'

Jigra is now set to release in cinemas on October 11, a postponement from its original September 27 date to avoid clashing with the release of Telugu actor Jr NTR's Devara: Part 1.
