1MT turmeric airlifted to New Delhi from Manipur

Imphal (Manipur), Aug 26, 2018:

The Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department of Manipur achieved a milestone as it airlifted one metric tonne (MT) of dry turmeric to New Delhi on Saturday.

Earlier in July, the department had succeeded in exporting 1MT organic pineapples from the State.

The North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd (NERAMAC), under the Ministry of DoNER, in collaboration with the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) also procured five MTs of organic dry turmeric and 1MT black aromatic black rice (chak-hao) which will be airlifted in the coming days. The MOMA under the aegis of the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department has been working for the development of organic farmers of the state.

Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar said the turmeric and black rice was airlifted under the strict supervision of officials of the department.

He added that the turmeric airlifted was bought by buyers in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) who are mostly foreign exporter.
