Celebrated fashion designer and handloom revivalist Robert Naorem has once again placed Manipur and Northeast India on the global fashion map. Representing India at an exclusive international fashion showcase during Paris Fashion Week, Naorem unveiled his latest collection titled “Art of East India” at Melia La Défense, Paris, under the curation of PP Production House. The event featured 25 distinguished designers from around the world.
Known for his commitment to sustainable fashion and cultural preservation, Naorem’s collection paid homage to Manipur’s artistic heritage and textile craftsmanship. Each piece celebrated the intricate handlooms of the state — woven silks and detailed hand embroidery — reinvented for an international audience.
With a color palette of red, cream, and ivory, the collection beautifully fused traditional Manipuri attire with modern Western silhouettes, reflecting Naorem’s vision of bridging cultures through fabric and design.
Speaking about his participation, Naorem emphasized that his goal was to revive indigenous weaving traditions while empowering local artisans, particularly women weavers from Manipur’s rural heartlands.
His representation at such a prestigious global event not only reinforces India’s growing influence in sustainable fashion but also shines a light on the rich craftsmanship of Manipur, making it a proud moment for the entire Northeast region.
