Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren expressed his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for attending the Nupee Lal Day observance and paying floral tributes to the freedom fighters at the Nupee Lal Complex.
Speaking at the Nupee Lal Numit 2025 ceremony, organised by the Manipur government, Biren highlighted the significance of the day, which commemorates the courage and bravery of Manipuri women who revolted against British injustice in 1904 and 1939. “I believe incidents like Nupee Lal may not have occurred anywhere else in India. This historic day is symbolic and must never be forgotten by the people of the state,” he said.
Biren described President Murmu’s presence as a great honour for the people of Manipur, noting that it underscores the respect and value she holds for the state, particularly for the role of women in its history. He urged citizens to remember and reciprocate the concern shown by the president during the historic observance.
The ceremony was attended by MLAs and senior officials of the Manipur government, alongside former Chief Minister N. Biren.
