Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh expresses hope for improved law and order, condemns killing of six persons

Former Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Thursday, June 11 expressed hope that the law and order situation in the state would improve following recent measures taken by the Central government and administrative changes.

Biren Singh made the statement after visiting the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, where he met the bereaved families of six persons believed to be Naga hostages whose bodies were recovered recently. The bodies have been kept at the JNIMS morgue for identification and post-mortem examination.

Speaking to the media, the former Chief Minister said that developments in recent days indicated efforts towards strengthening the law and order situation in Manipur. He pointed out that the Central government had deployed the CoBRA team as assured earlier and that changes had been made in portfolios related to law and order management.

Biren Singh condemned the killings and expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased. He said that the loss of lives was painful and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

Appealing for peace, he said violence has no place in society and stressed that issues can be resolved through dialogue, discussions and talks. He urged all communities to remain calm and work collectively towards restoring peace and stability in the state.

The former Chief Minister also highlighted the role of the public in bringing peace and maintaining harmony during the ongoing situation.

The six bodies recovered recently are believed to be of six persons who were reportedly abducted on May 13 from Leilol Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district. The bodies were later brought to JNIMS, where identification and further medical procedures are being carried out.
