NSCN-IM chief and Ato Kilonser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), Thuingaleng Muivah, was accorded a grand reception upon his arrival in Senapati district headquarters, Tahamzam, on Wednesday, October 29.
Over 30,000 people from across Manipur’s Naga-inhabited districts gathered to welcome the veteran Naga leader, transforming Senapati into a festive hub of jubilation, unity, and cultural pride. The atmosphere was marked by traditional songs, dances, and the waving of Naga flags as Muivah made his way through the town.
Delegates from various Naga districts of Manipur attended the reception, which marked Muivah’s return to his native region after five decades. The event was organized as part of a week-long visit from October 22 to 29, during which Muivah is scheduled to address several gatherings and hold key interactions with community leaders.
The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) extended a ceremonial welcome by unfurling the Naga National Flag at its office, reaffirming its commitment to the Framework Agreement, including recognition of the Naga flag and constitution.
Addressing the crowd, ANSAM President Angteshang Maring said, “With hearts burning in pride and spirits anchored in purpose, the Naga youths and students of Manipur rise in unity to welcome our most revered leader, Th. Muivah, the living embodiment of the Naga political struggle.”
Maring further described Muivah as a “living legend whose life has been a song of sacrifice, courage, and unbreakable conviction for the Naga nation.”
The reception symbolized not only the people’s respect for Muivah but also a renewed assertion of Naga identity and solidarity at a time when the Framework Agreement continues to remain a key topic in the peace process.
Muivah is expected to address the gathering later in the evening, marking a significant moment in the continuing journey of the Naga movement.
