Houses burnt in Taphou village of Manipur’s Senapati by armed miscreants, tension prevails

Tension prevailed in Taphou village in Manipur’s Senapati district after two houses, reportedly belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities, were allegedly set ablaze by armed miscreants in the early hours of Monday, August 24.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 4.30 am. The houses were allegedly targeted and set on fire by armed individuals, triggering concern among residents and prompting authorities to strengthen security arrangements in and around the area.

Sources said one of the houses belonged to a Kuki family and the other to a Naga family. The reported burning of houses belonging to members of the two communities has raised concerns over a possible escalation of tensions in the area, which has remained sensitive amid the continuing ethnic conflict in Manipur.

Security personnel have been deployed and security measures have been intensified in Taphou and surrounding areas to prevent any further escalation.
