In a powerful show of solidarity and humanitarian resolve, Manipur's Kangpokpi has mounted a large-scale relief initiative for families displaced by the recent violence in Litan, underscoring the district’s enduring spirit of unity during times of crisis.
Spearheaded by the Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation (KWWO) with the support of the Kangpokpi Town Committee, the relief drive culminated in the collection and donation of 280 blankets, 51 bags of clothes, two bags of utensils, and ₹33,000 in cash. The materials and funds were formally handed over to the Relief Incharge of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) at KWWO’s office in Kangpokpi.
The initiative comes in response to the humanitarian distress faced by families forced to flee their homes amid violence in Litan. Residents from across Kangpokpi — including daily wage earners, business owners, homemakers and youth volunteers — contributed generously, reflecting a broad-based community effort.
KWWO President Tingnei Lhouvum said the contributions symbolise more than material aid. “Each blanket offers warmth during cold nights in relief camps. Clothes help restore dignity to those who escaped with little. Utensils support the rebuilding of daily life, and the financial assistance addresses urgent needs,” she said.
Members of KWWO personally supervised the collection, sorting and packaging of the donated items to ensure quality and usability before distribution. The organisation’s coordinated approach drew appreciation from local leaders and civil society groups.
The General Secretary of CoTU, Janglim Khongsai, said the scale of the response highlights Kangpokpi’s longstanding tradition of standing by communities in distress, regardless of location.
Community leaders described the drive as a benchmark in women-led humanitarian action, commending KWWO for its efficiency, transparency and grassroots mobilisation. The organisation reaffirmed that the relief effort is part of an ongoing commitment to support displaced families until normalcy is restored.
As uncertainty continues to loom over affected families in Litan, Kangpokpi’s collective response stands out as a reminder that compassion and solidarity can prevail even in the face of violence and displacement.
