The last rites of Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh were performed in Imphal on Wednesday, September 9, after his mortal remains arrived at Imphal International Airport earlier in the afternoon.
Family members and relatives received the mortal remains before performing the last rites in the presence of mourners.
Vikram Singh, 55, was allegedly assaulted by a group of men on September 7 near his residence at Kilokari Ashram in Delhi’s Sunlight Colony. He later succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, the incident took place after Vikram allegedly objected to noise and nuisance caused by delivery workers and dhaba staff operating outside his residence late on Sunday night.
The death of the musician has triggered concern in Manipur, with calls for strict action against those responsible for the alleged assault.
The incident has also renewed concerns over the safety of people from the Northeast living in other parts of the country.
