The festival, organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society (MFSDS) in collaboration with the Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSFTI) and under the aegis of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, aims to foster a dynamic cinematic landscape in the Northeast.
In his keynote address, Festival Director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum highlighted the significance of EIIFF in shaping the future of filmmaking in the region. He emphasized that the festival serves as a platform to nurture fresh voices and reinforce the storytelling traditions of Manipur. "At a time when apprehensions surround visiting Manipur, the overwhelming support from creative minds across the nation and beyond underscores cinema’s ability to unite, heal, and inspire," Sunzu stated.
The four-day event promises a carefully curated selection of short films, documentaries, and fiction features, alongside industry interactions aimed at fostering cinematic talent. Masterclasses, Cine Talks, and Panel Discussions have already begun, sparking meaningful dialogues among filmmakers and audiences alike.
For the first time in Northeast India, EIIFF has introduced two Pitch Sessions, providing emerging filmmakers the opportunity to present their fiction and non-fiction projects to industry professionals. Selected participants will compete for funding grants totaling ₹8 lakh, marking a significant milestone for regional cinema.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Information and Public Relations Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan expressed his delight in hosting a festival that not only offers a creative respite but also serves as a crucial platform for aspiring filmmakers. He underscored the transformative power of cinema in shaping society, reinforcing the necessity of promoting film as an influential medium.
Renowned filmmaker and doyen of Manipuri cinema, Aribam Syam Sharma, attended the event as a special guest and shared his experiences from his illustrious journey in filmmaking. Expressing hope for the future, he encouraged young filmmakers to create impactful cinema capable of gaining international recognition.
