Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday, October 19 visited Raj Medicity in Imphal to meet three people injured in an attack by suspected armed militants in the Kongban Sunurok-Nongsum area along the Imphal East-Kangpokpi periphery. The chief minister interacted and met with the family of one of the critically injured person in the hospital.
The attack took place at around 9.40 am when the victims had reportedly gone into the hills to collect firewood. At least three people were killed and three others injured in the incident, according to the information available.

In a separate development following the killings, angry residents brought the bodies of the deceased to the gate of the Chief Minister's official residence in protest. Security personnel later collected the bodies and took them to the mortuary at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Security was subsequently tightened in and around the Chief Minister's residence, and movement along the route near the bungalow was restricted.
