The honour included a citation and a cash prize, celebrating her dedication to humanitarian efforts.
As part of the commemoration, senior women citizens and former colleagues of the late Nengcha Chongloi were also honoured and provided financial assistance as a gesture of respect and gratitude.
Late Nengcha Chongloi (88), popularly known as Nengphakim, has been dubbed as Mother Teresa of Kangpokpi, whose life was a testament to unwavering dedication to humanity.
Born on November 7, 1935, as the second daughter of (L) Letkhopao Chongloi and (L) Lhingjating Chongloi, Nengcha Chongloi devoted her life to serving the destitute, especially children. Her journey of selfless service began in her youth, shaped by the hardships of World War II, when she took on the responsibility of caring for her younger handicapped brother. Answering her inner calling, she chose to remain unmarried, dedicating her entire life to the welfare of those in need.
Though she had no biological children, her kindness and care touched countless lives, earning her the revered title ‘Mother Teresa of Kangpokpi’, previously bestowed upon her by the Kangpokpi Christian Church.
The event not only paid tribute to a remarkable woman but also served as an inspiration for future generations to uphold the values of kindness, compassion, and selfless service.
