Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh along with members of his cabinet and legislators visited injured persons undergoing treatment at SHIJA Hospitals and Research Institute in Imphal on Wednesday, May 13 following the ambush incident in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district earlier in the day.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho during the visit to the hospital, where three injured persons identified as Thangtinlen (38), Gounang (26) and Houpu (50) are admitted after the attack were undergoing treatment.
Among those accompanying the Chief Minister were Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLAs Leishiyo Keishing, Ram Muivah and Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh, along with other officials and leaders.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho strongly condemned the ambush, stating that civilians and religious leaders who consistently advocated peace had been targeted in the attack.
He said the incident could not be justified and condemned the targeting of religious leaders and civilians in the strongest terms.
When asked about the possible involvement of any group in the ambush, Dikho said that no organisation had claimed responsibility for the incident so far, and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment on the involvement of any particular group at this stage.
On the possibility of handing over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government would first discuss the matter before taking a decision.
