Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Sunday, March 29 released the Manipuri feature film Tamphamani at the Manipur State Film Development Society and attended a special screening of the film.
The film, based on a real-life story of a soldier, was released in the presence of members of the film fraternity, retired armed forces personnel, and cultural figures. The production team described the Governor’s presence at the event as a significant moment of encouragement and recognition.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla commended the makers for their cinematic effort, noting that the film highlights themes of sacrifice, duty, and patriotism while also reflecting the cultural context of Manipur. He expressed confidence that Tamphamani would resonate with audiences and inspire young people by reinforcing values of resilience, national service, and commitment.
Director Urmika Maibam thanked the Governor for attending the release function, stating that his presence was a source of motivation for the film fraternity. She said the film was produced by her mother, retired Major Motimala Ngangom, who served in the armed forces for nearly three decades and is also a cancer survivor.
Maibam said the film explores the contrast between civilian life and the life of a soldier, while addressing the lack of understanding about the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel. She added that the film aims to provide audiences with a deeper insight into the realities of military life and may encourage youth to consider careers in active service.
Several retired senior army officials from Manipur, including Konsam Himalay Singh, L N Singh, and Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Gaurav Sharma, attended the event. They expressed appreciation for the film and said such cinematic efforts could help increase public understanding of the armed forces.
The event also saw participation from members of the art and cultural community, along with invited guests who attended the screening.
