Manipur Governor and Chief Rector of Manipur University Ajay Kumar Bhalla on March 27 attended the 15th Convocation Ceremony of Manipur University as the chief guest and called upon graduates to become “torchbearers of a Viksit Bharat.”
Degrees across various disciplines were conferred upon students from academic years 2013 to 2020 at the long-awaited convocation, which was held after a significant gap.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, Chancellor of Manipur University Prof. T. Tirupati Rao, Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, and Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities Dr. Pankaj Mittal, among other dignitaries.
As part of the ceremony, the Governor also conferred medals on meritorious students who secured top ranks in their respective disciplines, recognising their academic excellence and outstanding performance.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said the convocation marked both the culmination of the students’ academic journey and the beginning of a new phase of responsibilities and opportunities.
He emphasised the role of institutions like Manipur University in nation-building, stating that education must go beyond degrees to instil integrity, ethical values, and a sense of duty.
Calling upon graduates to contribute to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” the Governor urged them to pursue lifelong learning, embrace innovation and self-reliance, and use their knowledge for the greater public good.
Highlighting the importance of the Northeast in India’s development journey, he stressed the responsibility of youth in promoting peace, progress, and social harmony. He also encouraged them to uphold unity, inclusivity, and constitutional values.
The ceremony concluded on a note of optimism and pride, reaffirming the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders dedicated to societal and national progress.
