Manipur celebrated Teachers' Day at MFSDS with awards recognising outstanding contributions in education. The government presented the ‘State Teachers Award’ to five exceptional educators: Lisham Roma Devi, Ch Damayanti Devi, Akoijam Sundari Devi, Hriiziio Adahe, and P Nipendro Singh.
Further, the ‘Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence,’ introduced this year to promote quality college education, was given to three colleges. Manipur College secured the top prize, followed by Don Bosco College in second place and Thoubal College in third.
Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh praised the teaching community, highlighting their crucial role in society. He noted that Manipur's education sector has excelled, surpassing the national average in all categories of the National Achievements Survey. Specifically, Manipur scored 61.8% in Class III, 51.5% in Class V, 45.4% in Class VIII, and 39.1% in Class X, outperforming national averages in each category.
The minister also discussed the School Fagathansi Mission, a programme launched in 2019 aimed at enhancing government schools. "The government will target to include all 4000 government schools under this mission in phase wise so that government schools could perform at the best level,” he added.
Addressing challenges faced by the education sector, Singh committed to ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and ensure no compromise in standards. The event also recognised the best-performing schools and subject toppers in Class XII and X exams.
