Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has expressed his willingness to contest the 2027 Manipur Assembly elections from the Keishamthong constituency, saying he would enter the electoral fray if his party nominates him.
Akoijam made the announcement while addressing an event at Keishampat Keisham Leikai Community Hall in Imphal on October 18. The event was organised to mark the 78th anniversary of Manipur's first elected Assembly, which was established on October 18, 1948.
“If the party gives me the ticket, I will contest from Keishamthong Assembly Constituency,” Akoijam said.
Speaking at the event, the MP also urged voters to look beyond candidates' promises of development while choosing their representatives. He said voters should prioritise candidates who can protect Manipur and ensure a secure future for the state.
His remarks come ahead of the 2027 Manipur Assembly elections, with Akoijam indicating that he is prepared to contest from Keishamthong, subject to his party's decision on the candidature
