Manipur Pradesh Congress to stage mass rally against alleged 'vote theft' on August 23

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly condemned the alleged “vote theft” recently exposed by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, pledging full support to any nationwide movement launched by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on the issue.

In a show of solidarity, MPCC on Thursday organised a special screening of Rahul Gandhi’s August 7 press conference held in New Delhi, where he presented evidence of large-scale electoral irregularities. The event, held at Congress Bhawan on B.T. Road, Imphal, was attended by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, senior Congress leaders, MLAs, and party members.

Following the screening, MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra addressed the media, describing the revelations as deeply unfortunate and a direct assault on the sanctity of the Indian Constitution and citizens’ voting rights. He alleged that the investigation led by Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge exposed massive irregularities, including voter duplication and identity manipulation, allegedly carried out by the BJP government in collusion with the Election Commission.

Meghachandra claimed that fake voters were found in constituencies in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana, which, he said, resulted in legitimate voters being disenfranchised. He further expressed suspicion that similar malpractices may be present in Manipur’s electoral rolls and confirmed that MPCC would launch its own verification drive in constituencies where irregularities are suspected.

As part of its protest programme, MPCC will hold a candlelight vigil this evening and has announced a state-wide rally on August 23 in conjunction with the nationwide protest against “vote theft” called by the AICC.
