Manipur singer Sadananda Hamom seeks capital punishment for culprits in Chongtham Vikram killing case

Renowned Manipuri singer Sadananda Hamom has demanded capital punishment for those responsible for the alleged brutal killing of musician Chongtham Vikram Singh in Delhi.

Hamom expressed deep grief over Vikram’s death and joined the tribute ceremony held at Imphal International Airport, where family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to receive the deceased musician’s mortal remains.

Describing Vikram as a “very loveable and down-to-earth person”, Hamom said his death following an assault was deeply unfortunate.

The singer said the incident once again raised concerns over racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in Delhi.

“If racial discrimination in Delhi has become a common issue, then what may happen in every corner of the country?” he said.

Hamom called for greater awareness about the Northeast, including its geographical location, people and diverse cultures. He said efforts were needed to ensure that people across the country understood that the Northeast is an integral part of India.

He also urged authorities to take stringent action against those responsible for the killing and said racial discrimination against people from the Northeast must stop.

“Authorities concerned should take stringent action against the culprits, including capital punishment,” Hamom said.
