In a major stride toward advancing higher education in Kangpokpi district, a team from the College Development Council of Manipur University conducted an inspection at Presidency College, Motbung (PCM), to evaluate the institution’s preparedness for the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, proposed to begin in the 2025–26 academic session.
The inspection panel comprised Prof. G.K.N. Chhetry (Department of Botany), Prof. Ch. Mathew M.K. (Department of History), and Dr. Francis Chipem (Department of Chemistry). The team assessed faculty strength, infrastructure, and laboratory facilities, while also engaging with teachers and students to gauge academic readiness.
The initiative seeks to upgrade honours courses in 11 disciplines — Physics, History, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Education, English, Mathematics, Political Science, and Zoology.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal S. Kipgen welcomed the inspection, terming it an “honour for Presidency College Motbung.” He expressed optimism that the programme, once approved, would uplift the education system of Kangpokpi by allowing students to pursue advanced studies within the state.
Kipgen also highlighted a significant academic advantage under NEP 2020: graduates who secure 70–75% marks and qualify for the NET could proceed directly to a Ph.D. programme without first completing a Master’s degree. “This is a milestone for our academic landscape, as the FYUGP structure aligns with global standards by promoting holistic and flexible learning opportunities,” he said.
He further appealed to the local community for collective support in strengthening the institution, ensuring quality education, and expanding opportunities for youth in the district.
