Dr Muhammad Riyajuddin Khan, an intending candidate from Lilong Assembly Constituency for the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections, on May 11 stressed the need for peace and communal harmony in the state, stating that minority communities have a crucial role in bridging divides among larger groups.
Speaking on the sidelines of a “Developmental Public Discussion” programme organised in Lilong Assembly Constituency, Khan said lasting peace was essential for the overall progress and development of the state.
“To bring peace and communal harmony among communities, the role of minorities is very necessary. Minority communities must act as a bridge between powerful communities,” he said.
Referring to the prolonged unrest in Manipur, Khan noted that despite the conflict continuing for the last three to four years, there was still no clear roadmap for restoring normalcy.
“The unrest in Manipur has been going on for the last three to four years, but we still cannot see a clear solution as to when peace will return,” he stated.
He further called for a “unique plan” to restore peace and communal harmony, adding that meaningful development would not be possible without stability in the state.
“Without peace and harmony in the state, no development can be achieved,” he added.
