The 16 Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU), Manipur launched the Peace and Friendship Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the sports complex in Kangpokpi district headquarters, aiming to strengthen community ties and foster youth engagement.
The high-spirited opening ceremony saw the presence of Colonel Sandeep Sharma, Commandant of 16 Assam Rifles, along with leaders of various civil society organizations (CSOs) from Kangpokpi. Their attendance highlighted the growing role of grassroots sporting events in promoting peace and social cohesion in the region.
More than 30 volleyball teams from across Kangpokpi and neighboring areas have registered for the tournament, which offers free entry for all participants. The event not only brings the excitement of competitive sports but also acts as a platform for fostering unity among young people from diverse communities.
The tournament kicked off with a dynamic opening match between PMA Kangpokpi and Motbung. Motbung claimed a straight-set victory with scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-21, setting a strong tone for the competition ahead.
