Fourteen Kuki individuals who had allegedly been detained by Naga village guards were released on humanitarian grounds and handed over to authorities at the Senapati district headquarters on Tuesday, June 9.
The handover took place at around 4 p.m. in the presence of officials from the Senapati Police, personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Assam Rifles, and members of the district administration.
Following the release, one of the former detainees, Paotinkai Chongloi of Taphou Kuki Village, stated that the group had spent 27 days in the custody of the Naga village guards and that they were treated well throughout the period.
According to Chongloi, the detainees were provided with basic necessities, including clothing and blankets. He said food was served twice daily and tea was also provided.
Chongloi further remarked that the detainees had learned valuable lessons during their stay and expressed appreciation for what he described as the compassion and kindness shown by the Naga village guards.
Appealing to members of his own community, he said the humanitarian approach demonstrated during the detention period should serve as an example of compassion and mutual understanding among people.
The release and handover were carried out peacefully under the supervision of security personnel and civil authorities.
