Two villagers were killed and two others sustained bullet injuries after suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K allegedly attacked N Teikhang Kuki village in Kangpokpi district on Monday, August 31 morning, triggering fresh concerns over the security of civilian settlements along the IT Road corridor.
The incident was reported at around 9.30 am under the T Waichong sub-division, according to local sources. The armed assailants allegedly opened fire on villagers and set several houses ablaze during the attack.
The deceased were identified as Lamtinthang, who was reportedly shot dead during the firing, and Neichin, wife of Tongpao. Seilun sustained a bullet injury to his thigh, while another woman, Nemneichong, was also injured in the firing, the sources said.
According to local accounts, Seilun was shot in the thigh while his son Lamtinthang was killed in the attack. The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of civilians in the Twilang belt along the IT Road, where violence has been reported in recent weeks.
Several houses were also reportedly torched during the attack, forcing residents to flee their homes amid gunfire.
The latest incident comes against the backdrop of continuing tensions and armed confrontations in the wider Twilang area. Repeated incidents of firing and attacks on settlements have raised concerns over the security of villages located along the strategically important IT Road.
Residents in the remote belt have also faced disruptions to movement and access to essential commodities and healthcare amid the continuing violence.
The attack on N Teikhang has further intensified fears among communities living along the IT Road, with civilian settlements increasingly exposed to armed clashes and retaliatory violence.
Security arrangements in the area are expected to remain a key concern as authorities assess the latest incident and the broader security situation in the region.
