Union MoS inspects projects, distributes welfare benefits in Manipur’s Noney district

As part of the Central government’s efforts to accelerate development across different regions, Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma visited Noney district on February 27, amid signs of improving normalcy and stabilisation in the state following the formation of a popular government.

The minister’s helicopter landed at Longmai Common Ground around 10 am, where he was accorded a warm reception by Noney Deputy Commissioner Vidyamari Sridhar, Superintendent of Police Namsadai Peter, and other district administration officials.

After the formal reception, Srinivasa Varma visited the Longmai Primary Health Centre, where he distributed Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY cards to four beneficiaries from the district. He also handed over house keys to beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin in the Rangkhung region.

The minister later inspected key infrastructure projects, including the country’s tallest railway pier bridge (Bridge No. 164) located in Noney district. He also reviewed the progress of ongoing developmental works by visiting project sites such as the NHIDCL works on National Highway-37 and the Awangkhul Railway Station construction site.

Following the field inspections, Srinivasa Varma chaired a review meeting at the Noney DC office with District Level Officers from all line departments, along with officials from the Railways and NHIDCL. The meeting focused on the implementation of Central Sector Schemes in the district, besides deliberations on other key developmental issues concerning Noney.

The visit underscored the Centre’s emphasis on close monitoring of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects to ensure balanced and inclusive development in Manipur’s hill districts.
