Movement of stranded trucks and other vehicles resumed on National Highway-37 on the morning of June 25 after authorities opened a newly constructed RCC slab culvert at the landslide-affected stretch near Shantikhunou in Tamenglong district.
According to police, traffic movement began around 8:30 am after heavy rainfall washed away the temporary road diversion that had been created adjacent to the culvert. Authorities decided to allow vehicles to pass through the newly constructed structure to restore connectivity along the crucial Imphal–Jiribam highway.
Officials said empty vehicles were initially permitted to cross the damaged section. If no issues arise, loaded trucks will also be allowed to use the culvert under the supervision of police personnel and the road construction agency.
A team from Kaimai Police Station, led by the Officer-in-Charge, is overseeing and regulating vehicular movement in coordination with the construction company to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
Vehicular movement along NH-37 had been completely disrupted after multiple landslides struck Tamenglong district on June 24 amid continuous heavy rainfall across Manipur's hill districts.
Police reported that a major landslide occurred at Shantikhunou near a CRPF camp between Sibilong and Kaimai villages under Kaimai Police Station. Additional landslides were reported at Oinamlong Zero Point and Nungdolan, further affecting road connectivity in the district.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as restoration and clearance work progresses in the affected areas.
