Manipur-origin musician C. Vikram Singh has died in Delhi following an alleged physical assault involving delivery executives, according to his family.
Singh’s death has prompted calls from his family for a fair and impartial investigation and legal action against all those found responsible.
In a statement, Singh’s wife, Joshna Chongtham, said the family was struggling to cope with his sudden death and appealed for privacy while urging the authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding his death are thoroughly investigated.
“I am still struggling to come to terms with the loss of my husband, Vikram Chongtham Vikram,” Chongtham said, describing him as her husband, her child’s father, a son, a brother and a musician who was deeply loved by family and friends.
She expressed gratitude for the support extended by family members, friends and people across the country, as well as by the Delhi Police, political leaders and public representatives following the incident.
Chongtham said the family was seeking justice and accountability rather than revenge.
“We are not seeking revenge. We are seeking justice,” she said, adding that the family wanted those responsible to be held accountable in accordance with the law.
She also appealed to the authorities to respect the family’s privacy as it comes to terms with the loss.
The family has urged the authorities to conduct the investigation without bias and establish the circumstances that led to Singh’s death. It has also called for appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible.
Chongtham said the family hoped that Singh’s death would not be repeated in other families and that his memory would be respected.
Further details regarding the investigation, including the circumstances of the alleged assault and the action taken by the authorities, are awaited.
