‘We should stop this type of racial killing’: Manipur CLP leader Meghachandra on Vikram Singh’s death

Manipur Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh has condemned the killing of Manipuri musician C. Vikram Singh in Delhi, calling for a fair and time-bound investigation and strict punishment for those responsible.

Reacting to the death of the 55-year-old musician, who was allegedly beaten by a group of men outside his residence in South Delhi, Meghachandra said such incidents must not recur, particularly in the national capital. Police have arrested all eight accused in the case.

“We should stop this type of racial killing. This is the capital of India, and it should not happen. In the future also, it should not happen again,” Meghachandra said.

He said the killing has deeply disturbed artists in Manipur as well as people across the Northeast.

“Artists of Manipur are really unhappy. All the people of Northeast India are very unhappy. We are also the citizens of India,” he said.

Meghachandra demanded a time-bound probe into the circumstances surrounding Vikram Singh’s death and said the accused must face punishment if found guilty.

“There should be a fair and time-bound investigation into the killing of Vikram Singh. The culprit must be given punishment,” he said.

The Congress leader also questioned the silence of the Centre over the incident.

“Why is Amit Shah silent? Even the Prime Minister never uttered a word,” Meghachandra said.

Vikram Singh, a musician and music teacher who had lived in Delhi for nearly two decades, was allegedly assaulted late on September 6 after objecting to a group of men creating a disturbance outside his home in Kilokari. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries early the next morning.

The killing has triggered concern among Northeast communities in Delhi and calls for a thorough investigation into whether any racial motive was involved. Police are examining the circumstances and possible motives behind the assault.

Meghachandra's remarks come amid growing demands from political leaders and community groups for swift justice and stronger safeguards for people from the Northeast living in the national capital.
