UDP constitutes panel on influx

Even as the fear of influx of illegal immigrants into Meghalaya from Assam following publication of complete National Register of Citizens (NRC) there continues, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced constituting a committee to study the issue of illegal immigration and dubious voters in the State, besides coming up with suggestions for the State government on ways at dealing with the menace.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said the issue should be dealt with thoroughly as it had serious implications for Meghalaya.

Earlier, a special central executive committee meeting of the party was held here on Tuesday,

Mawthoh said the committee would submit its proposal to the State government after soliciting views of UDP leaders and workers at the grassroots level.
