Meghalaya's fickle weather shifts from gloomy to glorious, heavy downpour drench state

It is a typical day in the northeast. In Guwahati, the rain is pouring down relentlessly. The previous day had been hot and humid, while at night, the skies had opened up, drenching the city in a downpour. 

Just a short distance away, Meghalaya lived up to its name, "abode of clouds," as rain clouds hovered over the state on May 5. The morning started dark and gloomy, with the dreary weather setting the tone for the day.

However, those familiar with the region's weather patterns knew that this was just the beginning. They say in the capital city Shillong, one can experience four different seasons in a single day, and true to that saying, the dark, gloomy, and rainy weather quickly gave way to a bright, fine day.

As the sun peeked through the clouds, the rain stopped, and the streets of Shillong began to dry up. It was hard to believe that just an hour ago, it had been raining cats and dogs. The sudden transformation was a reminder of the ever-changing nature of the weather in this part of the country. People in Meghalaya have learned to embrace the beautiful unpredictability with a smile.
