Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, on June 7, defended the state against criticism over the case of a missing couple from Indore, asserting that Meghalaya should not be defamed because of a single incident.
"Just because an incident happened in Meghalaya, the state should not be defamed," Hek said, highlighting the intensive efforts underway to locate the couple. "We won't tolerate this," he said.
He added, "From morning till evening, police have been working tirelessly despite heavy rains and challenging terrain. The entire team, including Sohra volunteers and personnel, is involved."
Hek also mentioned that local youth have been mobilised for the rescue operation.
“Despite all these efforts, Meghalaya is being defamed, and we will not accept that one incident should tarnish the state's image,” he said.
The minister confirmed that after being informed about the incident, he visited the site and met with senior officials to ensure a proper investigation is being conducted.
