AIZAWL: Assam Rifles troops today seized a huge quantity of illegal areca nuts and foreign cigarettes in Mizoram's Champhai district.
Based on specific information, Assam Rifles recovered 180 bags of contraband areca nuts from General Area Melbuk- Champhai Road and 14 cases of foreign smuggles cigarettes from General Area Chhungte, Champhai District yesterday
The Assam Rifles recovered these items in its crusade against smuggling activities.

The approximate cost of the seized contraband areca nuts is Rs 34,34,400, meanwhile, the market value of the seized foreign cigarettes is Rs 19,99,400.
Both the operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department.
The total cost of both recovered Areca Nuts and Foreign cigarettes is Rs.54,33,800.
