Mizoram Election | Thousands of Displaced Brus cast their vote in Kahnmun

Guwahati, November 28, 2018:

On Wednesday Bru (Reang) voters from Tripura reached Kahnmun, Mizoram in huge numbers just to cast their votes.

Thousands of Brus reached Kahnmun friom Tripura in about 140 reserved bus and more a 100 LMVs. These Brus who were lodged in several relief camps were transported by the BJP led government of Tripura.

They were welcomed by Young Mizo Association (YMA) and the Election Commission upon their arrival at the voting centre. There were about 15 stations for the displaced Brus.

It may be mentioned that about 40 thousand Brus have been living in relief camps in Tripura for the past 21 years as they had a communal clash with the Mizos.

Over the years, they were casting their votes in the relief camps in Tripura but this is after a very long time that they are voting in Mizoram.

Out of the 32,000 registered refugees, 12,014 are voters. Among them 9,149 are from Mamit, 1,940 from Kolasib and 925 from Lunglei in Mizoram.

However, the exact number of voters is yet to be known.
