AIZAWL: People from various districts of Mizoram are gathering up fruits and vegetables from their agricultural fields and bringing them to the state capital, Aizawl as free relief as an economic blockade and pandemic are in progress in the state.

According to official sources in Mizoram, no vehicle has entered the state from Assam since the border clash on July 26, despite the neighbouring state's assertion that the "economic blockade" staged by several groups on National Highway 306 has been lifted.

It needs to be mentioned that Mizoram has been in a complete lockdown since April 20 this year and a total lockdown was imposed throughout the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area since May 10.

Many families are facing financial difficulties in terms of the inability of many daily wagers to work in Aizawl.

In the meantime, farmers from various parts of the state are sending truckloads of fresh vegetable produce to various Aizawl localities for free to help them out, which has never happened before in the country.

Such kindnesses during a time when the state is facing hardships not only from the pandemic but also because supply movement is disrupted are true acts that those who receive it will remember for the rest of their lives.
