Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled flag-off of the Sairang Railway Station on September 13, a special media joy ride was organized on Thursday, September 4 to showcase the upcoming connectivity milestone.
The event, however, stood out for more than just the preview of railway services. Local media representatives from Mizoram, reflecting the state’s reputation for discipline and civic responsibility, took it upon themselves to clean up litter inside the train cabin once the ride concluded. The voluntary act drew appreciation and even inspired journalists from other states to join the cleanup drive.
Adding significance to the initiative, the ICT Secretary of the Government of Mizoram also participated in the effort, underscoring how small, collective gestures can symbolize larger societal values.
Beyond celebrating a major infrastructural achievement, the occasion served as a reminder of Mizoram’s culture of peace, cleanliness, and respect, including its well-known “no-honking” tradition. It highlighted how even symbolic actions can promote civic consciousness and contribute to shaping a more responsible society.
