Manipur divisions too deep, but problem can be healed through dialogue: Former Mizoram CM Zoramthanga

Former Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has described the situation in Manipur as a difficult problem to resolve, saying that the depth of the divisions has made reconciliation challenging.

Speaking in Delhi, Zoramthanga said attempts to bring the conflicting sides together would require addressing the underlying grievances and concerns of the people.

“Manipur problem is a very difficult problem to solve,” he said. Drawing an analogy with a deep wound, the former chief minister said the divisions in the state had become too deep to be addressed simply by bringing the “wounded parts” together.

Zoramthanga, however, said he believed the situation could be addressed through consultation with the people and by listening to their concerns.

“There is nothing in the world which cannot be healed. The problem of Manipur can also be healed by consulting the people and listening to their problem,” he said.

He suggested that the Government of India could work towards a solution by engaging with the affected communities and taking their concerns into account.
