Mizoram’s most cherished cultural festival, Chapchar Kut, was celebrated with grandeur and enthusiasm at AR Ground on Friday. The festival was graced by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who attended as Kut Pa (Father of the Festival), while Art & Culture Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga served as the Kut Thlengtu (Host of the Festival).
This year’s theme, “Zo Nun Ze Mawi – Hawihhawmna” (The Beautiful Zo Behaviour – Respect for Others), underscored the deep-rooted value of respect in Mizo society. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of preserving the rich traditions of Mizo ancestors, particularly Hawihhawmna—the practice of demonstrating respect through words and actions. He highlighted the significance of values such as honoring elders, selfless service, mutual understanding, and community support, which serve as the pillars of social harmony and progress.
The festival was a spectacular showcase of Mizo cultural heritage, featuring mesmerizing performances by various cultural groups, including the Mizo Cultural Organization, MZP Choir, Central YMA, Art & Culture Department, and PC Girls' School. Adding to the vibrancy, cultural troupes from Assam, Nagaland, and even Fiji participated in the festivities. The celebration reached its crescendo with electrifying performances by music bands, leaving the audience enthralled.
Kut Thlengtu C. Lalsawivunga and Central YMA President Lalhmachhuana also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the festival’s significance. Col. Lalhmingliana, Territorial Commander of the Salvation Army, led a prayer of blessing, adding a spiritual essence to the event. The festival concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Art & Culture Director Carol VLMS Dawngkimi, marking the end of a grand celebration that truly embodied Mizoram’s cultural spirit.
