Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena voiced concerns over the prolonged infrastructure challenges faced by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram during the Parliament Budget session on Monday, March 10.
Addressing the House, Vanlalvena emphasized that NIT Mizoram, established in 2009 as one of the ten new NITs under the Government of India, continues to function without a permanent campus. Initially operating from VNIT Nagpur, the institution was relocated to Mizoram in 2011, yet remains scattered across multiple locations in Durtlang, Chaltlang, and Tanhril due to delays in infrastructure development.
The MP highlighted a key obstacle in the construction of NIT Mizoram’s permanent campus at Lengpui, which was halted after the Forest Department identified the proposed land as part of the Riverine Reserved Forest.
Appreciating Union Minister for Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, for reducing the fees levied by the Forest Department, Vanlalvena urged the central government to take into account Mizoram’s financial constraints and waive all penalties imposed on the state.
