Guwahati, January 3, 2020:

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday participating in a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Guwahati accused the BJP of being indulging in “dirty” to consolidate “Hindutva votebank”.

Addressing the gathering, Sitaram Yechury said, “The Citizenship Amendment Act has violated the very spirit of the Indian Constitution and is dangerous for both the present and the future of the country.”

Assuring to fight against the communal Act, Yechury said, “The fight to safeguard the people will be on. The country has enough Hindus who have been exploited in the due course of time. There was no need to bring in non-Muslims from three different countries.”

Extending support to the Assam Accord, the CPI-M leader demanded the withdrawal of the CAA from Assam at the earliest, adding that Chief Ministers of 13 different states have opposed the contentious Act.

Moreover, Yechury announced that his party would back countrywide protests by labourers on January 8, the same day that has been called a 'Bharat Bandh'.
