Mamata Banerjee injured during poll campaign attack in Nandigram

NANDIGRAM: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee sustained face and foot injuries during a commotion during her election meeting here today.

She has been rushed to Kolkata for treatment.

Banerjee alleged before that media that she was “pushed” by someone and that a “conspiracy” was being hatched against her.

Sources said she was injured when she was attacked by a mob. However, the allegation could not be verified independently.

She said she will report the incident to the Election Commission of India.

Banerjee today filed nomination as Trinamool Congress candidate from here. Banerjee, who is a sitting MLA from Bhawanipur, opted to contest from Nandigram after being challenged for her former Cabinet colleague Suvendu Adhikari, who switched loyalty to the BJP, to defeat him in Nandigram.
