Multiple regions in Jammu, Rajasthan, and Punjab came under drone and missile attacks by Pakistan on Thursday, just a day after India conducted strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan. The series of aerial incursions prompted India to activate its air defence network, successfully intercepting several threats.
One drone struck near Jammu Civil Airport, while at least eight missiles were neutralized mid-air by the Indian defence systems. Additionally, two drones were shot down in close proximity to Jammu University, averting potential damage.
Residents in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and Pathankot, Punjab, reported loud explosions after drones were intercepted in the sky. Air raid sirens blared across Chandigarh, adding to the atmosphere of heightened alert.
In a significant military development, an F-16 supersonic fighter jet of the Pakistan Air Force was reportedly shot down by Indian defence forces as they repelled the coordinated aerial attack.
Authorities enforced a blackout across Jammu and selected areas in Punjab and Rajasthan, as precautionary measures. Sirens echoed through multiple cities, warning residents to remain sheltered. Meanwhile, villagers residing near the Line of Control were evacuated to safer zones to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
