Two employees of the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) faced suspension after they were found to have created an Instagram reel while on duty. The suspension was implemented by the state-run transport corporation, citing the portrayal of the department in a negative light through their actions.
The suspended individuals, identified as bus driver Hanumanthappa and conductor Anita, came under scrutiny after a video surfaced on social media platforms. In the viral footage, Hanumanthappa is seen holding an umbrella inside the bus, expressing concern that passengers might get drenched if it rains. The video, reportedly captured by Anita, raised questions about passenger safety and the overall condition of NWKRTC buses.
Responding to the public outcry, NWKRTC Managing Director Priyanga issued a statement confirming the suspension of both employees and initiating a departmental inquiry into the matter. Priyanga emphasized that the suspension was a consequence of the employees' actions tarnishing the reputation of NWKRTC.
Furthermore, Priyanga clarified that an inspection was conducted on the bus featured in the reel to verify the alleged leaking roof. Contrary to Hanumanthappa's concerns in the video, the inspection concluded that the bus roof was not leaking. It was determined that the reel was created solely for entertainment purposes, devoid of any factual basis regarding the bus's condition.
