As the Monsoon Session of Parliament approaches, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has emphasized the importance of responsible political discourse, particularly on sensitive matters like foreign policy. Addressing the media, Rijiju took a pointed swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of echoing "the language of Pakistan" and thereby misleading the public on issues of national interest.
“The way Rahul Gandhi tries to mislead people on foreign policy by speaking the language of Pakistan, it harms the country,” Rijiju remarked. “We will suggest to him that, as the Leader of the Opposition, he should refrain from making anti-national statements.”
Rijiju highlighted the importance of constructive parliamentary dialogue, stating that “Parliament is about to begin, and whatever issue comes up, we are ready to listen. Just yesterday, I had a very good meeting with Kharge ji and Rahul ji. I maintain regular communication with leaders from other opposition parties as part of my responsibility to ensure coordination.”
While reaffirming the government's openness to discussions, Rijiju urged the Opposition to avoid creating disruptions. “Nothing will be achieved by ruckus. You cannot blame the Prime Minister on foreign policy and then speak against the country’s interest. Opposition does not mean abusing the country,” he said.
The minister also appealed for national unity on foreign policy, drawing a contrast with previous governments. “Even during the Congress-led government, we did not attack the Prime Minister on foreign policy matters. There has always been a tradition of maintaining national consensus on such crucial issues.”
Reiterating his concern over divisive political rhetoric, Rijiju concluded, “When it comes to foreign policy, we should not be divided. The role of the Opposition is not only to question the government but also to contribute positively to national development.”
