Major blaze engulfs Jammu and Kashmir's Sonamarg main market, fire tenders on the spot

A massive fire broke out in the main market of Sonamarg, a prominent tourist destination in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, on Saturday, February 8 evening.

According to initial reports, the fire originated in one of the hotels in the market area and quickly spread to nearby structures. As of the time of reporting, fire tenders had yet to reach the scene.


Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir CM, Omar Abdullah reacting on the fire incident tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the devastating fire incident in the Sonamarg market. My office is in constant touch with the local administration to ensure all possible assistance reaches those in need. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and businesses..."

Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage, and further details are awaited.
