In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate India's longest cable-stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu, connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka island in a short while today, February 25.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the 2.32 Km long bridge, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 980 crore, is part of the Rs 52,525 crore worth of infrastructure projects that PM Modi will inaugurate or initiate during his two-day visit to Gujarat.
The Sudarshan Setu features a unique design with a footpath displaying verses from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Bhagwan Krishna on both sides, the PMO office stated.
It also mentioned that the bridge has solar panels installed on the upper sections of the footpath, capable of generating one megawatt of electricity.
The construction of a new bridge will facilitate easier transportation and considerably decrease the travel time for devotees journeying between Dwarka and Beyt-Dwarka.
Previously, pilgrims had to depend on boat transport to reach Beyt Dwarka. The iconic bridge will also function as a major tourist attraction in Devbhumi Dwarka. The Prime Minister will also initiate the foundation stone of the New Mundra-Panipat pipeline project, valued over Rs. 9000 crore.
The 1194-km-long Mundra-Panipat Pipeline, with an installed capacity of 8.4 MMTPA, has been commissioned to transport crude oil from Mundra on the Gujarat coast to Indian Oil’s refinery at Panipat in Haryana.
PM Modi will also inaugurate a pipeline project at Vadinar, which involves replacing existing offshore lines, abandoning the current Pipeline End Manifold (PLEM), and relocating the entire system to a new nearby location. Additionally, the Prime Minister will dedicate the Rajkot-Okha, Rajkot-Jetalsar-Somnath and Jetalsar-Wansjaliya Rail Electrification projects to the nation.
