Raja Raghuvanshi's brother links Pune murder case to Sonam case, says 'Siya wouldn't have dared if Sonam wasn't released'

The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose alleged murder during his honeymoon in Meghalaya in 2025 shocked the nation, has drawn parallels with the recent Pune cliff murder case.

 

Reacting to the arrest of 20-year-old Siya Goyal and her alleged partner Chetan Chaudhary in the murder of Siya's fiancé, 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal, Raja's brother Vipin Raghuvanshi claimed that the accused may have been emboldened by developments in his brother's case.

 

"We were devastated when my brother was murdered in a similar manner. Sonam's family had assured us they would support us and ensure she was punished, but later they got her out of jail and protected her. If Sonam had not been released, Siya probably would not have dared to commit this crime," Vipin said.

 

The remarks come after Pune Police alleged that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, who were reportedly in a relationship, conspired to kill Ketan Agarwal by pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18.

 

The case has drawn comparisons with the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. Raja, a 29-year-old businessman from Indore, disappeared along with his wife Sonam during their honeymoon in Meghalaya in May 2025. His body was later recovered from a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra.

 

Investigators alleged that Sonam had conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and hired contract killers to murder Raja during the trip. Sonam and several others were arrested, and the case became one of the country's most widely discussed criminal investigations.

 

The latest Pune case has once again triggered public debate over crimes allegedly involving romantic relationships and premeditated murder, with Raja Raghuvanshi's family urging strict punishment for those found guilty.
