The West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested one more Bangladeshi national in connection with the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
According to media sources, the Bangaldeshi national who has been identified as Siam Hossain was intercepted by a CID team in Bangaon of North 24 Parganas district near the India-Bangladesh border and is believed to be closely connected to MP Anwarul Azim Anar’s murder in New Town, Kolkata.
It may be mentioned that the main accused in the case, Akhtaru Jaman Shaheen, continues to be on the run as reports suggest that he might possibly be hiding in America. The CID and the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police are working together to collect more information for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Interpol has also been approached to assist in locating Shaheen.
In the ongoing CID interrogation of Jihad Howlader, also known as "the butcher," it has now been discovered that the recently arrested Siam Hossain reportedly supplied the tools for the crime.
CID will produce Siam Hossain before the Barasat Court on June 8 to seek remand for further investigation.
Earlier, Nepal had extradited a Bangladeshi citizen, one of the main accused in the brutal murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, to India, according to a media report on June 7.
As per the report, Hussain, who fled to Nepal after the murder, was arrested from the border area of Nepal a few days ago.
The Awami League MP Anar, who was in Kolkata for medical treatment on May 12, went missing on May 17, according to a complaint filed by his acquaintance on May 18.
Anar was allegedly murdered in a flat in the New Town area near Kolkata and it is suspected that Anar’s friend and business partner Akhtaruzzaman, who is now a US citizen, plotted the murder.
