Sikkim is set to celebrate the second edition of Aama Samman Diwas on a larger scale at the Rangpo Playground, with preparations for the state-level event currently underway.
Political Secretary to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Bikash Basnet, briefed the media on the arrangements for the event, which will be held alongside the 9th Jan Unmukti Diwas. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will attend the programme as the chief guest.
The decision to shift the celebration to the larger Rangpo Playground is aimed at facilitating greater public participation and providing a larger platform for recognising mothers from across the state.
A key feature of this year's programme will be the introduction of two new awards under the Aama Samman initiative. The awards are intended to recognise mothers for their contributions and achievements.
Under the Aama Samman Puraskar, one deserving mother from each Assembly constituency will receive a cash prize of ₹51,000. The award category has been kept for mothers who are not beneficiaries of the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, thereby expanding the scope of recognition under the initiative.
The second award, the Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar, will recognise three mothers who have made outstanding and productive use of financial assistance received under the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana.
The top three recipients of the Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar will receive cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.
The state government said the awards are aimed at recognising the role of mothers and highlighting examples of effective use of government assistance for economic and social progress.
